Reversing Light Switches
Mechanical or Hydraulic switch, activates the reverse lights of the vehicle as soon as the transmission is engaged.
There are
two primary types of reverse light switches. On a manual transmissions the switch usually screws into the gearbox casing; This type of switch has two terminals. On an automatic transmission gearbox the switch is similar in appearance but usually has four terminals instead of two with one pair of wires for the reverse light circuit and the other pair for the inhibitor switch which prevents the car being started in any gear other than ‘N’ or ‘P’.
